Oriel Windfarm Project Information
Oriel Windfarm proposes to develop a 55 turbine wind farm in five phases of 11 turbines each in the North West Irish Sea near Dundalk. This proposed windfarm will have a capacity of 330MW on completion which is enough power to supply 200,000 homes.

Location
Oriel was granted a foreshore licence by the Department of Communications Marine and Natural Resources for the North West Irish Sea area for a two year period in October 2005.
The area is regarded as one of the most suitable locations for a wind farm in the Irish Sea. It has excellent wind resources, good seabed conditions, shelter from high wave loads and insignificant tidal streams.
This gave Oriel Windfarm permission to carry out a technical work plan, including site investigations and an environmental impact assessment, on this licence area.
The licence area is located to the North East of Clogher Head and is 26 kilometres east north east of Drogheda and 19 kilometres south east of Dundalk.
Oriel has identified an area within this licence zone which is suitable for the construction of an offshore windfarm. This area is 5.5km’s from Cooley Point, 19km’s from Dundalk and 14 Km’s from Clogher Head. This area was chosen following environmental & engineering studies and consultations with local groups.
