The Oriel Windfarm project will help promote Dundalk and Louth as a Centre of Excellence in Renewable Energy. In association with Sustainable Energy Ireland and DKIT.
An offshore windfarm such as this would provide Dundalk with an identifiable positive infrastructural landmark.
A wealth of scientific information will be made available through Environmental and Engineering studies undertaken by Oriel.
Improvements in marine services and infrastructure will be a spin off to this project.
Potentially large spin-off in local services - hotels, B&B, boats, engineering, professional services etc.
Increased local tourism activity.
The turbine foundations would have a positive “reef effect” for fisheries, and would increase fish stocks in the area as has been recorded at windfarms off Denmark.
